RSVP is a standard
piano trio that plays a style of jazz best described not as "smooth" or "lite," but
simply as "classy." Its repertoire includes the traditional
standards and movie themes, as well as compositions by the likes
of Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis,
Dave Brubeck, and Ramsey Lewis. But they often surprise audiences
with contemporary tunes associated with rock and reggae artists
as well.
The three members of RSVP have been performing separately and playing together
in various configurations for many years. Paul and Dick have been playing together
almost as long as Drew has been alive; and Dick and Drew have collaborated in
musical projects of their own. Paul and Drew have been known to do a jazz duo
on occasion as "PB&J" (Piano, Bass and Jazz).
In its normal secular mode, RSVP has played nearly every venue, from country
clubs to colleges, and bars to ballrooms. But RSVP is also well known in the
Columbus area and beyond for its liturgical jazz (that is, jazz for Christian
worship). |
